Welcome to another week of Tiny Tip Tuesday! Thanks for joining us each and every week to share and visit with us! We’re finally back home from visiting in Florida, and getting back into the groove of things. :)

This week, I’m sharing a tip that I learned just within the past few months. I don’t know about you, but for as long as I can remember, I was under the impression that tomatoes should be kept in the fridge, along with the rest of the salad ingredients (lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, etc.). But I’ve since learned that this is actually wrong!

Tomatoes should be kept at room temperature, until they are fully ripened. The reason is because the cold temperatures of the fridge actually stop the ripening process and destroy the membranes in the fruit, causing it to lose flavor and take on a mealy texture.

After they’ve ripened, you can keep them in the fridge for up to 2 or 3 days to keep them from spoiling, but make sure to bring them back to room temperature before using, for the best flavor and texture.

I’ve been keeping our tomatoes on the counter in a fruit bowl for a couple months now, and I can say that it really has made a difference in the taste and texture! Who would’ve thought!
