I’ve been talking a lot about plastics lately! Beth Terry’s book (read my complete review here) has really helped inspire our family to make some changes in the way we think about plastics. Even Mr. Nurture, who never really concerned himself with the concept of unnecessary waste, has been much more attentive to the types of products we bring into our home.

A few weeks ago, I also shared 5 simple things we could all do to help reduce our plastic waste. And today, I have another item to add to that list: reusable straws like these gorgeous straws from Glass Dharma!

I never knew I could fall in love with a straw, but Glass Dharma’s high quality glass straws are just that amazing. Baby Y and I have a smoothie everyday and I was getting really tired of wasting so many straws! To be honest, I’ve never even heard of glass straws and had no idea that something like the classic, plastic straw would have a reusable version. I couldn’t wait to try them so I made a nice green smoothie just for the occasion! I absolutely LOVE the adorable decorative dots on these straws – such a nice touch of flair and personalization. Baby Y had no trouble drinking from his “shorty” sipper, and my 9.5mm (ice tea size) straw was perfect for my not-so-thick smoothie.

But my true favorite is their cute bendy straw, which I LOVED in my fruity smoothie! It’s slightly bent near the top to “reach” for your lips.

How Do You Clean Them?

The cleaning brushes also work very well, although I’ve only had to use them the one time I left our empty cups on the counter and forgot to rinse them right away. Otherwise, the straws are fairly easy to wash even without the brushes – a testament to the great quality of the glass! I also hear they do really well in the dishwasher, but I haven’t tried that yet since we don’t ours very often.

And What About Storage?

I think this is my favorite part of all! Once our straws are dry, I keep on the counter within arms reach in a repurposed glass jar. I think I may decorate it soon to give it a bit more flair, but the straws themselves do a good job of that already. :)
