Have you been hearing a lot about those monthly subscription boxes lately? There are quite a few companies out there, and I’ve always been interested in trying one out. So when I had the chance to try out a box from The Homegrown Collective, I was more than thrilled!
The Homegrown Collective, like many of the other subscription boxes, sends out a new box every month that focuses on a different theme. But what makes The Homegrown Collective different from other subscription boxes, and it’s one of the reasons I really love this company, is that their boxes don’t just contain a collection of products for you to try. No, their boxes (called Green Boxes) contain items that help promote self-sufficiency, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
For example, some past Green Boxes have included a mushroom growing kit, DIY cheese kit, and DIY homemade cough syrup. At Nature’s Nurture, we’re HUGE fans of self-sufficiency and sustainability, and I’m always looking for ways to make things at home instead of buying them from the store – in case you can’t tell from my posts! 😉 So finding out about The Homegrown Collective was pretty awesome!
This month, the April Green Box contained a Kombucha Brewing Kit – this could not have come at a better time because I was just telling my husband that we need to start getting into kombucha! If you’re not familiar with kombucha, it’s a fermented, sweetened probiotic beverage that promises a whole bunch of amazing health benefits, from detoxification and digestive health, to immune support. Hmmm, maybe I’ll do a post on that soon!
When the box came in the mail, I was literally jumping up and down for joy because I was so excited to see what’s inside! When I first opened the box, I was very pleasantly surprised by the simple, yet elegant packaging. The contents were wrapped in brown paper and everything inside was packed and padded using just shredded brown paper. I absolutely love simple, eco-friendly packaging!
This is what was inside my Green Box – everything needed to brew my first batch of kombucha:
- SCOBY Starter (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast)
- 1/2 gallon mason jar
- Black Tea Blend
- Relaxation & Healthy Tea Kombucha Boosters
- Organic Ginger Root
- pH sticks, cloth cover, rubber band
Also included was some information cards to tell you about kombucha and its health benefits, the tea blend and boosters, and complete instructions for exactly how to brew the kombucha. Everything was very easy to read and understand, and was presented in such a pleasant way.
Unfortunately, I haven’t yet had a chance to actually try brewing that first batch of kombucha, since we’ve been traveling a lot these past few weeks. But once we get home in a couple of weeks, I’m so excited and feel so confident about trying to do this! I can’t wait to experiment with different flavor combinations and to take that very first sip!
I’m also very excited to see what’s coming up in their future Green Boxes. I think kombucha and DIY cheese are my favorites so far!
The Homegrown Collective is definitely something you’ll want to try out if you’ve been interested in those subscription boxes and don’t know where to start. The Homegrown Collective is it, because they provide more than just a box of sample products; they professionally curate their boxes to include seasonally relevant items to help you make everyday a little more green.
Where to Sign Up
Because The Homegrown Collective utilizes a “group buying” strategy, they only curate seasonal items and pass on the savings to you! They have different subscription levels (month-t0-month, 3-months, 6-months, and 12-months) and their prices seem very affordable. I’m pretty sure if I tried to source the items in my kombucha box on my own, it would’ve cost more than the $39 for a 1-month subscription. And they have a 100% money-back guarantee so it’s definitely worth a try!
You can sign up for a subscription right on their website. And you can use the coupon code GREENMOM10 to get $10 off your first box!
And be sure to keep up with them at the following links for more information, giveaways, and more!
Are you interested in trying out a subscription with The Homegrown Collective? What’s your favorite past Green Box? What do you hope to see from them in the future?
