When you live in a place with four seasons, like Canada, the hot, humid summers are a welcome change from the seemingly endless frigid winters – especially when you have small children!
We love playing in our backyard, swimming in the kiddie pool, and caring for our vegetable garden. So when the nice folks at Little Tikes asked if we wanted to review their new Go Green Playhouse, we gave them a very emphatic “Yes, please!”
Go Green Playhouse Features
The Little Tikes Go Green Playhouse is a playhouse that helps expose kids to different “green” activities and teaches them to tend to a garden, recycle, collect rain water, etc. Here are some of the awesome features it has:
- flower garden and green roof
- water reservoir leading to a rain barrel
- solar powered light
- working sink
- recycling center with removable bins
- sky light
- mailbox, doorbell, and working door
- gardening tools (shovel, rake, watering can)
Setting it up
The playhouse was fairly easy to put together. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Some parts require two people to set it up, so don’t try it on your own, because it’s quite difficult for one person. Even the kids were able to help with some of the set up!
Everything was packed in the box very well. The only thing that snapped off was one of the clasps that holds the skylight to the roof; but a little super glue took care of that.
It’s play time!
The kids couldn’t wait to get started playing! It’s a little tight for more than 2 kids, although my 3 were in there at the same time for a bit. By far, their favorite part of the house is the pump sink – you fill up the bottom part with water, then they use the pump to get water out of the faucet. It really is so cool!
My favorite parts are the small details that were added to really make this look and feel like a real house; the doorbell, the mailbox, the solar powered light all make for some great imaginative play!
The recycling bins are a great touch, and since our kids are already helping us recycle at home, the playhouse offers some great reinforcement when they’re playing outside. The slanted roof brings water down into the gutter which leads down to the rain barrel. There’s also a spigot on the rain barrel so you can water the flower garden.
The Little Tikes Go Green Playhouse is a great way for kids to go green and live an eco-friendly lifestyle all in a fun way! My kids are learning about recycling, saving water, using solar energy, growing a garden, etc. all while playing outside like they normally do. Little Tikes really did a great job with this playhouse!
And the best part of all? The huge box that comes with it is perfect for all kinds of pretend play! The kids took it outside and started painting it, which got the attention of all the neighborhood kids. Then they turned it into a garage for their cars, a tent with a bed inside, and a puppet show stage. 🙂
Are you excited about the Little Tikes Go Green Playhouse? What are your kids’ favorite summer time activities?
