Are you finding yourself reaching for more and more coffee just to get through the day? Unfortunately, too many of us are making poor choices when it comes to getting that extra energy boost to help us carry through that mid-afternoon slump.
The use of energy drinks has really sky rocketed in recent years. While they don’t necessarily have unusually high amounts of caffeine, most energy drinks tend to be heavily sweetened and much easier to drink, so the risk of overuse is very high.
Natural Ways to Boost Your Energy
Aside from getting a good night’s sleep, drinking lots of water, and eating regularly to fuel the body, what are some natural ways to boost your energy throughout the day without relying on sugary, caffeinated drinks?
Sip on some tea
Herbal teas like yerba mate, green tea, and ginseng can help improve energy without the negative effects of other caffeinated drinks.
Get your snack on
Reach for a healthy snack with protein and fiber to help you pull through the rest of the day. These homemade energy bars looks so moist and delicious, and here’s a nut-free version as well. Other ideas include mixed nuts, nut butters, smoothies, fruit and yogurt, and granola bars.
Walk it out
Something as simple as stepping outside for a quick walk can do wonders for your mood and energy levels. The fresh air, the increased blood flow, the deeper breathing – all are great ways to motivate you to push through. The sunshine also lets your body know that it’s not time for sleep.
Stretch it out
Get up and do some stretches or yoga to help clear your head and freshen up your whole mood. Practicing slow, deep breathing will only add to the health benefits!
Sniff some citrus
Aromatherapy can be a great way to affect your mood and mental state. Citrus scents like lemon, lime, and orange can have a stimulant effect and improve alertness, so go ahead and slice open that orange and take a nice long whiff before eating it, or add some citrus essential oils to your aromatherapy diffuser, or sip on a glass of warm lemon water, or citrus iced tea.
Take a power nap
Be careful with this one, because sleeping for too long will only make you even more groggy and can also affect your nighttime sleep; so keep that nap short and sweet at 10-20 minutes for best results.
Load up on fruits and veggies
One of my favorite ways to start the day is with a delicious green smoothie that’s loaded with fruits, leafy greens, and healthy fats. Learn how to make the perfect smoothie or some green smoothie freezer packs!
What about protein powders and other supplements?
I know some people swear by these types of supplements, but I’ve never felt comfortable with them as most of them are highly processed and filled with preservatives, soy, artificial flavors and sweeteners.
If you’re looking into protein powders and similar supplements, you want to look for something that is whole food-based, organic, and contains none of the artificial stuff.
I recently discovered the Daily Green Energy from Kaeng Raeng, and I must say I am loving this all natural, organic superfood and protein powder mix that’s loaded with probiotics and energizing B-vitamins! It’s made with 12 real fruits and vegetables, organic pea protein, and vegan probiotic cultures.
And rest assured that this stuff really is all natural – it’s gluten free, soy free, peanut free, and is certified organic and contains only non-GMO ingredients (though they’re still waiting on official certification). Oh, and no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives!

You can add the Daily Green Energy packets to your green smoothies, or mix it into some juice or plain water. You really have to blend it up or shake it in a covered bottle (Kaeng Raeng also sells a separate blender bottle), because this stuff will NOT dissolve by simple stirring. It tastes ok on it’s own, but I definitely prefer it added to my smoothie, and it really does give you a nice kick start to your day.
Probably the best part about Daily Green Energy from Kaeng Raeng is the fact that it’s safe for pregnant and nursing mamas – score! Not all products can say that, so this one made me really happy.
You can learn more about Kaeng Raeng and their Daily Green Energy at their website, and stay in touch with them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I don’t really have a way, so this is just what I need! =)
Walking. Definitely. When I consistently do it, I feel so much better with tons of energy. When I don’t, I’m just a blob.
Lol at the blob! Haha, I totally know what you mean, though 😉
For more energy I usually just get up and start moving.
Citrus always helps me feel more energized as well as taking a walk or stretching.
