Are you ready to ditch those plastic water bottles once and for all? Seriously, you know you need to, but something keeps pulling you back. I know, because I spent the last few years on what I’ll refer to as my “water bottle journey.”
It goes a little something like this (No judgement, please. Some of this was before I became Mrs. Nurture 😉 ):
- Bought and drank from plastic water bottles like no one’s business. All day, every day. Toss one, open the next.
- Started at least recycling my used plastic bottles… that’s helping, right?!
- Bought a reusable plastic water bottle… yay, I’m really doing my part now!
- Bought a new, BPA-free plastic bottle… Oops, my last bottle wasn’t BPA free – but this one is!
And that brings me to now. Well, a couple months ago. That’s when I realized that even though my plastic water bottle was BPA-free, it was still plastic. Meaning that it was made from petroleum (a non-renewable resource), it had a very limited recyclable life (1 or 2 times, max!), and honestly, I was too afraid to ever put anything else in it, besides water – water is colorless and odorless. But iced teas? Smoothies? Milk shakes? Not so much. And the last thing I wanted to smell when I went to take a sip of my water next time, was anything other than water.
So I started doing some research and learned that buying a glass water bottle really wasn’t such a crazy idea after all. It sounds almost impossible, but there are a lot of glass water bottles on the market! A couple weeks ago, I was asked to review the Takeya glass water bottle, and seeing how I was in the market for one, I happily agreed. 🙂

Takeya Glass Water Bottles Review
Right off the bat, I just love the way Takeya glass water bottle looks – so sleek, so slim, and yet it still holds a sizable 22 ounces of liquid. The color is awesome; bright and fun and the color in the pictures is pretty true to life. The silicone also feels nice and smooth; not rough at all, but also not too slick so that it feels like it will slip out of my hand or anything.
The mouth is actually a perfect size – not too wide so that it’s hard to control the flow of water, but not too small either, since I can easily fit ice cubes inside, if I need to. It’s very easy to drink out of, and I think it’s actually helping me drink more water – go figure! I use a long bottle brush to clean my bottles and my brush fit nicely inside; it was a little snug, but it fit. The bottle is a little tall, but it’s slim so it’s not hefty at all. I really love the way it feels in my hand – not just the soft silicone sleeve, but even the width of the bottle seems the perfect size.
It’s dishwasher safe, but I haven’t put it in my dishwasher yet. I usually just hand wash and let it dry on the dish rack. The only thing that bothers me just a bit is that the silicone sleeve isn’t snug enough around the middle (where the see-through area is), so water can easily get behind the sleeve when you wash it. My main concern with this is if there’s a possibility for mold growth over time. Since I’ve only been using it for a few weeks, I guess time will only tell.
In the meantime, I definitely like these glass water bottles! I was hesitant to make the switch to glass, but after using one for several weeks, I can’t imagine ever going back to plastic water bottles. Even the water tastes better – crisp, clean, fresh – just the way nature intended. 🙂

I heard that Takeya bottles are made out of a high tech glass product. Which is made from Acrylic and glass… said that it is toxic because of the acrylic….
Is this true?
Thank you
Pam
Hi Pam,
I’ve come across this before as well, but it’s a bit of misinformation. According to Takeya’s website, their water bottles are 100% glass and nothing else.
However, their tea pitchers are made of something called acraglass, which does include acrylic.
Hope that clears it up for you! 🙂
